Student Spotlight: Alyssa Whitby Chamberlin

Alyssa Whitby Chamberlin, Ph.D. candidate in Criminology, Law and Society, has "always had a curiosity in what factors might motivate someone to engage in crime." As an undergraduate she learned that a vast majority of individuals who commit crimes or are victims of crime, reside in great poverty. At this point, she became interested in helping individuals improve their lives and the communities where they live. Chamberlin is collaborating with associate professor John Hipp and her research is working towards trying to find why good neighborhoods go bad.
