Proposition 47 study stirs debate

March 22, 2018

California's Proposition 47, implemented in 2014, lowered prison populations by reclassifying certain low-level drug and property crimes from felonies to misdemeanors. It has been blamed for rising crime in the state.

So a study done by Charis Kubrin, a professor of criminology, law and society, that found the measure was, in fact, not responsible for the rise in crime was sure to stir debate.

There have been multiple news articles written about Kubrin's study, including in The Orange County Register, CBS LA, The Crime Report, The Orange County Register (again), The Associated Press and The Orange County Register (a third time). Kubrin was also interviewed about the study on AM 640.
