A Leading Cause for Wrongful Convictions: Experts Overstating Forensic Results

This article by The New York Times mentions a report by The National Registry of Exonerations which explains that more than 150 men and women in American prisons were exonerated in 2018 and the top reason for convicting innocent people was official misconduct.

Simon Cole, professor of criminology, law and society and director of the National Registry of Exonerations, says that "an expert can say whatever they want" when they take a stand in the courtroom.
