4 from School of Social Ecology receive Dynamic Womxn Awards

The UCI Womxn’s Center for Success and 98 campus community members celebrated 13 Anteaters — including four from the School of Social Ecology — at the 10th annual Dynamic Womxn Awards ceremony in the Student Center’s Pacific Ballroom on May 26.

More than 113 nominations in six award categories were collected for this one-of-a-kind annual celebration of “incredible womxn and allies who are leaders and role models in our campus community making a difference,” according to the center.

Kristine Molina, associate professor of psychological science, was presented the Academic Achievement Award.

“The award honors member(s) of the UCI community (faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students) who have contributed academic research/theory that advances knowledge, narratives and/or pedagogy that elevate the womxn’s and BIWOC (Black, Indigenous, Womxn’s of Color) issues in their field,” according to the center.

The Tamara Austin Legacy Award was given to Jennifer Lane, the School of Social Ecology’s director of computing.

“The award recognizes an individual staff member whose impact creates a legacy that will be known and felt for generations to come,” states the center. “Honoring Tamara Austin, the Womxn’s Hub inaugural director, this award celebrates a staff member who has exemplified leadership and advocacy for womxn on campus.”

The Department of Criminology, Law and Society produced two of the four Dynamic Womxn of the Year award winners: Sarah Loranger (undergraduate student) and Karma Rose Zavita (graduate student).

“This award honors individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the personal growth and success of womxn, through education, research, public or volunteer service, that is above and beyond their expected responsibilities,” says the center. “This award recognizes an individual’s significant contribution to the UCI community that may often go unnoticed.”
