Last October, California lawmakers voted to make the state a sanctuary state for undocumented immigrants, preventing local law enforcement from cooperating too closely with federal immigration officials.
Now, some cities are resisting the sanctuary state law, forming a small anti-sanctuary state movement.
"It's purely symbolic," Charis Kubrin, a professor of criminology, law and society, told the LA Times. "I think it's been a very effective move in some ways because the story has become how divided California is, when in fact it's not."
