Peter Ditto, Professor of Psychology and Social Behavior, is quoted in The Orange County Register over the tendency of voters taking sides based on their party's position, despite the merits over specific laws and measures a candidate may propose.
From The Orange County Register:
Peter Ditto, a UC Irvine social psychologist specializing in partisan political bias, said there have been many studies examining the “party over policy effect.”
“People (can) apply completely different standards of reasoning when thinking about the party and policies they like and dislike,” he said.
