MPP program presents APPAM Conference

Eduardo Carvalho Nepomuceno Alencar, a doctoral student in social ecology and master of public policy alumnus, presented his study, analyzing corruption and trust in public institutions, Friday at the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management California Regional Student Conference at UC Irvine.

His talk was part of a panel discussion on economic models and growth. Other panel talks focused on healthcare access and cost, national security and foreign policy, immigration policy, politics and the policy process and influences on academic outcomes. The conference keynote discussion, organized by associate professor of urban planning and public policy, featured interdisciplinary approaches to syringe exchanges in California.

The two-day conference, co-sponsored by the School of Social Ecology’s Master of Public Policy Program, continues tomorrow with discussions on early childhood education; immigration, crime and discrimination; climate change and environmental protection; health insurance; social safety net programs; diversity in education; impacts on the labor market; and urban development. Qi Bing, a UCI master of urban and regional planning student will present, “Financing the lead service line replacements throughout the city of Buffalo” as part of a panel on urban development. Other speakers include students and faculty members from UCI and other universities.
