Please welcome Lee Cabatingan, who is joining the Department of Criminology, Law and Society as an assistant professor, following her appointment as a UCI Chancellor's ADVANCE Postdoctoral Fellow in the same department.
Cabatingan's research explores the ways in which law and legal institutions contribute to projects of nation-making, statecraft, and region-building. She has focused geographically on Cuba and the Anglophone Caribbean, both of which are places where she has conducted extensive ethnographic research.
She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, and a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She has also practiced as a litigator in San Francisco.
