California Homicide Rate Drops

George Tita, Professor of Criminology, Law and Society, was quoted in a recent Reuters article. There has been a decline in the United States murder rate and the California homicide rate, even in these tough economic times, and many social science researchers admit to being baffled. "It's a riddle," said Tita. "A lot of our social science theories would predict that when the economy is bad and increasing the level of strain and frustration among people, that it's more likely to lead to violence."
