How did plastic become one of the most pervasive environmental challenges of our time—and what can we do about it?

Plastic pollution has recently become a household topic, but this issue is so much more than a straw in a sea turtle’s nose or an sea bird’s belly fully of bottle caps. The real story behind plastic goes far deeper than meets the eye, and to understand, we must first travel back in time.

Join Emily Parker, senior marine scientist with Heal the Bay and a local plastic pollution expert, in an exploration of the history of plastic production and how we got to the modern era of plastic. With moderator Dave Feldman, the director of Water UCI and a professor emeritus of urban planning & public policy and politcal science, Parker will cover the myriad of impacts plastic pollution has on both ecosystems and communities and the best solutions we have at our fingertips solve this prolific problem.
