Researchers are invited to join media scholars Miranda Banks, a professor of film, television & media arts at Loyola Marymount University, and Kate Fortmueller, an associate professor of film, media & theatre at Georgia State University. They are the co-authors of Boom to Bust: How Streaming Broke Hollywood Workers (UC Press, 2026)
Drawing from their research on Hollywood, the workshop explores how scholars study workers and industry institutions, conduct and evaluate interviews, navigate ethical questions in field research, and investigate the changing role of unions and technology in media production.
This workshop is presented by the UC Irvine Labor Center, the School of Humanities' departments of English and Film & Media Studies, and Illuminations: The Chancellor's Arts & Culture Initiative.
