Carolina Valdivia, a UCI assistant professor of criminology, law & society, speaks on "Understanding the Experiences of Undocumented Students & Identifying Ways to Support Them." In this presentation, Dr. Valdivia will discuss how immigration policies and enforcement practices impact undocumented students. She draws from three separate research projects focused on understanding the lived experiences of undocumented young adults and their families. This includes observations and 103 in-depth interviews that she conducted with members of undocumented and mixed-status families in San Diego between 2017 and 2019. She concludes the presentation with concrete steps that educators have taken to provide support for undocumented students, as well as a discussion of remaining challenges.
