UC Irvine’s second annual Happiness Week, a campus-wide celebration dedicated to enhancing well-being and resilience during the inevitable stress of the last week of the winter quarter, continues its weeklong series of engaging activities and initiatives designed to elevate your spirits, reduce stress and foster a sense of community.
Led by the Division of Undergraduate Education and joined by almost 400 social ecology students taking Professor Sarah Pressman's Positive Psychology class (as well as about a dozen campus units), Happiness Week, which runs daily through Friday evening, offers a diverse range of events to help you thrive academically and personally.
Here is what is scheduled today:
9am-4pm: Stress Relief through Coloring and Games: Coloring books and games are set up in the study lounge at Undergraduate/Undeclared Advising's UEA 106 all week, so students can come by, play and de-stress.
10am: Mindful Yoga: Join the Center for Student Wellness & Health Promotion and Veteran Services Center for a free, guided yoga session! Open to all UCI students who register for the event. Held in the VSC in the Student Center Building, Room G306, this is session is also open to all levels (beginners to experts). Mats and materials will be provided.
11am-1pm: End of the Quarter Book Club Party: Whether you joined winter book club or just love books, you are invited to this book club party in honor of Happiness Week! Come to the ANTreprenur Center for snacks, reading the last chapter of “The Mountain Is You,” time to network with each other and other fun actives that promote healthy human connection and spreading the love of reading. What book to read for Spring is also on tap.
11am-2pm: Gratitude & Civic Engagement: The Office of Civic Engagement presents a tabling activity at the Division of Career Pathway. Students can write messages of gratitude to their local, state, or federal representatives. In many cases, people write and call their representatives with concerns or problems. We want to flip this during Happiness Week to encourage folks to consider what their representatives do well or how they are supported. Education on how to find out more about representatives will also be provided.
11am-2pm: Treats at DCP: Students who visit the Division of Career Pathways through Thursday enjoy individually wrapped snacks such as candy bars or bags of chips.
11:30am-12:30am: Cookies & Crafts: Come take a break from studying and destress with the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing at the COHS Building! Enjoy cookies, snacks and other light refreshments to gobble up. Make a friendship bracelet, color some mandalas or make an essential oil blend to relax!
12-1pm: Mindfulness in the Park: A group guided meditation in Aldrich Park is led by the Wellness Initiative in Social Ecology Peer Advisory Collective (WISE PAC) Culture Cluster. This mindfulness meditation will be a way for students to unwind and destress during the midst of finals season. Snacks, drinks and self-care items will also be provided for students to enjoy. You are encouraged to bring their own blankets for extra comfort!
2:30-4:30pm: Stress Relief–Button Making & Paper Crafts: Take a study break and stop by UCI Libraries! Enjoy some snacks and relax by designing your own buttons and making paper crafts in Langson Library Classroom 228.
