DETAILS

The 2023-24 Research Justice Workshop Series & Certificate in Community-based Research for Graduate Students* concludes with Module 9: Transitioning and Closing Out in Community-based Research.

This wraps up Spring: Transitions: Outcomes & Endings in Community-based Research. It also closes the nine-workshop series for this academic year. Research Justice Shop (RJS) co-directors and staff lead each workshop, encouraging attendees to participate in experiential learning activities to gain exposure to and training in Community-based Research methods. Participants have also built community, developed research practice commitments, and experimented with meta-principles for Community-based Research and pedagogy.

Participants who will have completed seven unique RJS workshops by the end of Module 9 receive a certificate in Community-based Research.**

The workshop is offered both in person and remotely. Participation requires ongoing interaction, including working in breakout groups. If you select remote participation, you will receive the Zoom link in your email prior to the workshop. The workshop will not be available to view asynchronously.

Lunch is provided from noon-12:30 p.m. for workshop participants who RSVP'd to attend in person, allowing time for further discussion and community building.

*Workshops are for graduate students; please contact newkirk@uci.edu if you are not a graduate student but are interested in attending. Note that space is limited and priority to attend in person is given to those who attended the workshops in the Winter.

**To receive the certificate, participants should complete seven of the nine workshops. In addition, due to limited administrative capacity and to support group cohesion, it is strongly preferred participants complete the certificate in one academic year. However, participants do now have the option to complete the series over two years, completing five to six sessions the first year and two to four sessions the second year if their schedule does not allow them to complete seven sessions in one academic year. Please contact Jamie Rich at the email address above to request certificate completion over two years.
