POSITION DESCRIPTION

ASSOCIATE TO FULL PROFESSOR, CRIMINOLOGY, LAW AND SOCIETY

The Department of Criminology, Law and Society (CLS) at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a faculty position in CLS. We welcome

applications from outstanding candidates in all fields, who will build on our departmental strengths in theory, research, and policy analysis. We are interested in

candidates whose research interests and expertise: 1) address the problem of systemic racism and other negative impacts of the justice system; 2) explore the

limits of criminal and civil justice systems as methods of dispute resolution; and/or 3) provide empirical and theoretical insights into the core challenges of

providing equal justice in formal legal systems or through alternative means. We have a particular interest in candidates doing work that addresses anti-

Blackness in substantive areas relevant to CLS.

The appointment will be made at the Associate or Full Professor rank (with tenure); we also welcome applications from current Advanced Assistant Professors

who would be eligible for tenure in the University of California at the time of appointment. To ensure your application is given full consideration, files should be

completed by October 17, 2022. Priority will be given to applications received by that date; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The position will begin July 1, 2023 (teaching duties will begin Fall 2023). Applications must be uploaded electronically through the on-line Recruit system:

https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF07628

Candidates should submit a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, representative publications, and provide names

and contact information for three professional references. Letters of recommendation will only be requested for candidates under serious consideration. A

separate statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion (e.g. mentoring activities, committee service, research

or teaching activities) is also required. Evidence of success in securing extramural funding to support research and graduate students is desired.

Please direct questions about this position to the chair of the search committee, Professor Charis Kubrin (ckubrin@uci.edu).

The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge

and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work and learn together

in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. With this commitment as well as a commitment to

addressing all forms of academic misconduct, UC Irvine conducts institutional reference checks for candidates finalists to whom the department or other

hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer of appointment into Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate,

and full). The institutional reference checks involve contacting the administration of the applicant’s previous institution(s) to ask whether there have been

substantiated findings of misconduct that would violate the University’s Faculty Code of Conduct. To implement this process, UC Irvine requires all candidates

of Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled

“Authorization to Release Information” into AP RECRUIT as part of their application. If the candidate does not include the signed authorization to release

information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive

further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department

or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant,

associate, and full) positions will be subject to institutional reference checks.
