Individual UCInetIDs are granted to each member of the faculty, staff, and student population at UCI. For the duration of your relationship with UCI, you will use your individual UCInetID regularly to access important online services.
Activate your UCInetID at https://ucinetid1.nacs.uci.edu/cgi/activate.cgi as early as possible. Activation usually takes 24 hours to process.
More information at http://www.nacs.uci.edu/ucinetid/
How to log on to your computer
Logging In
Please note that UCInetID must be activated for these intructions to work.
To login use your UCInetID (such as UCInetID at uci.edu), Password (same as UCI email password), and in the third field select "UCI.EDU (Kerberos)."
Eudora Email Software
The current default for email software in Social Ecology is Eudora. While in your office, you should set up Eudora to access your UCI email.
To set up your UCI email on Eudora see - http://nacs.uci.edu/email/eu-win-pop.html
Important note regarding setup instructions:
In Step 5, check the box for "Delete from Server after..." and enter "7" for the number of days.
While you are away from your desk you can quickly check email on the web using UCI Webmail.
While using Webmail is convenient we do not recommend using Webmail as your primary form of email access due to the following reasons:
Log into Webmail at https://webmail.uci.edu/uci/src/login.php
Changes are Permanent - Webmail holds the master copy of your email, if any changes or deletions are made, there is no easy way to retrieve them, making it permanent.
Limited Storage Space - limited storage allocation means one cannot store extensive amounts of email including attachments which also take up significant amounts of space. Using Eudora creates an email repository of emails on your computer.
Webfiles is a file storage system provided by Network & Academic Computing Services (NACS) to faculty, staff and graduate students at UCI. The system provides 1 Gigabyte of disk space that allows you to store copies of important documents, publish a personal home page, and collaborate with colleagues.
There is a one time set up to use Webfiles, follow the instructions on Webfiles under "Getting Started" - https://webfiles.uci.edu/xythoswfs/webui
Webfiles - https://webfiles.uci.edu/
Oracle Calendar automates calendar management and meeting scheduling, while helping departments to manage and share resources like conference rooms and projectors. Oracle Calendar is well suited to supporting University-wide meeting scheduling.

Drupal Web Content Management System
Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website. Tens of thousands of people and organizations have used Drupal to power scores of different web sites. Social Ecology's Computing Services use of Drupal allows you to edit your department pages, set calendar events, post your resume/CV, blog... and more.
You may login to the site by clicking on "Login" in the top right corner of the Social Ecology web site http://socialecology.uci.edu
Calendar of Events
You can now create new "events" that will appear on our calendar. If you would like to add a new event, just click "Create content" then choose "Event." It's similar to creating a new web page. Once you create your new event it will appear on the school calendar at http://socialecology.uci.edu/events
If you'd like to have a calendar for just your department or area please contact Computing Services at support@soceco.uci.edu
Social Ecology Mailing Lists
To facilitate announcements within the school, specific mailing lists were created. The mailing lists are monitored and administered by Computing Services. Staff members are encouraged to join the appropriate mailing lists.
Please note that only members of the mailing lists can send messages to the mailing list. Non member messages will be discarded.
