My main research interests are domestic violence and examining the risk factors for intimate partner homicide. This past summer, I had the opportunity to work with Susan Coutin to develop a study on female and juvenile illegal immigrants from Mexico and El Salvador to the United States. I am currently developing (or at least thinking about) a study to test self-control theory using elementary school teachers as a reference. In the future, I would like to use Global Information Systems to map the incidence of crime (possibly domestic violence).
Publications:
Report Covering Domestic Violence Related Fatalities, Orange County, 1997-2000
By Elizabeth Deschenes and Sylvia Valenzuela
Presentations:
-An Analysis of Intimate Partner Homicide in Orange County (ASC, 2003)
-The Collaboration Between Domestic Violence Death Review Teams (WSC, 2003)
-Risk Factors for Intimate Partner Homicide in California (ACJS, 2004)
