My research interests include historical developments in punishment; specifically, I am researching the history of felony disenfranchisement laws. I also hope to do some work on changing crime rates, particularly between 1970 and 1995, and to try to examine what role increasing rates of incarceration and the breakdown of welfare aid networks might have had in those changes. Also, I have done some reading on the historical context of criminology, that is, trying to understand how specific historical circumstances shape the way criminological ideas are received within the academic realm and by governments and policy makers more broadly.
