I was born and raised in Northern California (Bay Area). I have a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley both in Legal Studies and English Literature. I also have a Master’s in Criminal Justice from Chapman University. I worked on campus for the past five years as a Senior Budget Analyst for Academic Budget in the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Office, up until starting the PhD program here full-time.
I have been married for the past nine years to my husband, Scott Carpenter. I volunteer at the Newport Beach Public Library for Literacy Volunteers of America where I teach/tutor two students in English as a Second Language. I sit on the Board for the Newport Beach Public Library Distinguished Lecture Series, which includes program outreach to local high school students. I am currently working on re-establishing the Tolerance Program at the Newport Beach Public Library in the Fall of 2006, in association with the United Nations and UNESCO (International Day of Tolerance November 16), to include a local program with President Jimmy Carter. Occasionally you’ll find me with a hammer on a roof, helping Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. I also volunteer at the Orange County and Second Harvest food banks. And last but not least, I also volunteer for UC Berkeley by participating in local high school outreach programs related to UC Recruiting and Admission.
I am an avid college football fan, Go Bears! I also play golf at great courses around the world, when I can find time. I have lived in Orange County for the past twelve years.
