I am interested in the criminogenic effects of the criminal justice system. My main areas of interest include: criminal justice policy, juvenile delinquency, risk and protective factors, crime prevention strategies, and offender recidivism. I am currently researching and writing my dissertation which investigates the effects of Proposition 36 (drug treatment in lieu of incarceration initiative) on the case processing and sentencing of drug offenders in one California county. My dissertation committee includes: Elliott P. Currie (Chair), Ross Connor, C. Ronald Huff, Susan F. Turner, Franklin E. Zimring.

In my prior life (pre-PhD) I worked as a Crime Analyst for a local sheriff’s department, as well as a Police Dispatcher, an Intern-Probation Officer, and (going way back) a Police Explorer. I earned my M.Phil. from Cambridge University and B.A.’s in Social Ecology (with honors) and Economics from UC Irvine! When I’m not studying I like to spend time with my family, which includes two girls (6 and 2), a husband and a really energetic yellow Labrador dog, scrapbook, and plan my graduation party!
